For those of you who are travelling to Miami and have Cuban/ Latin family members, this is a historic site you don’t want to miss out on. The Freedom Tower is a National Historic Landmark that depicts the significant story of the Cuban exodus to the United States during the Cold War.
From 1962 through 1974 the Freedom Tower served as the Cuban Assistance Center, offering help and relief to Cuban refugees who sought political protection from Fidel Castro. Why Miami? Well, Many Cubans fled to California, Chicago, and Florida but the majority made their way to Miami because it was closest to Cuba. The Freedom Tower is filled with photographs, stories and old belongings that were donated in order to share the stories of our brave families. Stop by and read some incredible stories, skim through books, or just step into this historic site for the beautiful architecture and design. If you are of Cuban descent, this is a spot you don’t want to skip.
